The Academy is designed to move students beyond memorizing instructions by teaching the federal procedures, documentation standards, problem-solving skills, and professional judgment required during real collections.
Training emphasizes procedural accuracy, chain-of-custody integrity, donor dignity, regulatory alignment, and the ability to respond correctly when a collection does not follow the routine process.

Qualification Is More Than a Certificate
DOT collector qualification requires both instruction and demonstrated proficiency.
Students must successfully complete five consecutive error-free mock collections covering required scenarios. A completion document by itself does not replace the federal qualification requirements. Refresher training is generally required at least every five years, and error-correction training may be required following a collection mistake.

Who is the Qualified Specimen Collector Training designed for?
The program is designed for new and developing collectors, mobile-testing professionals, healthcare personnel, employer representatives, and organizations that need personnel trained to perform DOT or Non-DOT urine specimen collections.
Does receiving a certificate automatically make me a qualified DOT collector?
No. DOT qualification requires completion of the required instruction and five consecutive error-free proficiency mock collections. The Academy documents successful completion after the applicable requirements have been met.
What are the five proficiency mock collections?
The mock collections demonstrate that the student can correctly complete routine and problem-focused collection scenarios without error. The applicable scenarios and evaluation requirements are explained during training.
What regulations are covered?
DOT urine-collection instruction is aligned with 49 CFR Part 40 and applicable DOT guidance. Non-DOT procedures are addressed separately because employer policies, laboratory requirements, and state law may differ.
How long does DOT collector qualification remain current?
DOT collectors generally must complete refresher training at least every five years. Additional error-correction training may be required when a collector makes a qualifying mistake.
What is included with the collector training?
The program includes structured instruction, training materials, collection supplies used during practice, hands-on scenarios, five proficiency mock collections, and access to supporting resources identified for the course.
Is BAT training included in the $240 collector course?
No. Breath Alcohol Technician training is a separate $165 program. Students who need both programs may select the combined Collector + BAT package for $365.
What is the difference between DOT and Non-DOT training?
DOT collections must follow federal procedures under 49 CFR Part 40. Non-DOT collections follow the employer's written policy, the selected testing program, applicable state law, and laboratory or provider instructions.
Does the Academy offer refresher or remedial training?
Yes. Refresher and error-correction or remedial training may be arranged based on the collector's needs, the type of error, and the applicable regulatory or program requirements.
Can an employer arrange training for multiple employees?
Yes. Employers and organizations may contact EK-DNA LLC to discuss group training, workforce needs, scheduling, and customized compliance instruction.
Are other collection and compliance subjects available?
Additional training and resources may be available for hair and nail collections, DNA collections, fingerprinting, breath-alcohol testing, and compliance operations. Availability and qualification requirements are confirmed before enrollment.
